July 13 & 14, 2024
10:00am - 3:00pm
for kids 7-12 years old
Parent/Caregiver meeting: Thursday, July 11 6:30-8:00pm
Grief can be a lonely experience, and it can be particularly isolating for kids who feel like they're the only one of their peers who has gone through something so life-changing. WAVES gives kids an opportunity to come together, to create art, play games, to share about the person they lost, and to realize they're not alone.
The retreat will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 13 & 14, from 10:00am to 3:00pm at 550 Water St., Building L2 in Santa Cruz.
We ask that children bring a packed lunch each day. Snacks will be provided.
Psychotherapists Cyndi ("Cyd") Case, AMFT and Cindy Hedlin, AMFT will be leading the weekend. Both are play therapists who are passionate about supporting children. They each bring a wealth of experience to working with children through many challenges, traumas, and most importantly, grief. Both Cindy and Cyd are parents, and bring an attuned level of compassion and sensitivity to the families they work with. Cindy and Cyd understand there is no playbook for adults to navigate their own grief while supporting their children, and they are invested in giving parents and caregivers tools for each member of the family to use while processing grief. In an effort to support children, parents and caregivers, we ask that the child's adult(s) attend a parent/caregiver meeting on Thursday, July 11 at 6:00-7:30pm. During this meeting Cindy and Cyd will share about the weekend, learn about the child group members, and answer any questions.
If you are interested in having your child join the retreat, please fill out an inquiry form, and either Cindy or Cyd will get back to you to discuss your child's individual needs and determine if the retreat will be the best fit for your child at this time. Thank you so much for your interest.
